University Of Maryland Suspends Training For Football After Positive Coronavirus Tests

The University of Maryland has announced that voluntary individual training by members of the football program has been temporarily suspended after 9 student-athletes and staff tested positive for Coronavirus.

University officials said in a press release on Saturday that the nine positive cases were among 185 student-athletes and staff tested on July 7 and 8.  All nine are now in self-isolation and are being monitored by school health officials as the Prince George’s County Health Department conducts contact tracing.

The news comes just days after the Big Ten announced it will not be playing non-conference games in football and several other sports. Other college athletic programs are weighing how to return to the field this fall, with organizations like the Patriot League announcing games will not start until the end of September.
