Torrey Smith and his wife, Chanel, are partnering with Baltimore City Recreation and Parks to help run and build programming at Hilton Rec Center.
On Tuesday, the couple released a video talking about the plan, revealing that it has been in the works for over a year now. The Hilton Rec Center, located in West Baltimore, has been closed since 2008. This will be a part of the Smith’s Level 82 foundation.
“Torrey and I became adults in this city,” Chanel said in the video. “We grew to love the community and the people in it, and we really believe there’s so much potential here in Baltimore.”
Baltimore is like a second home for Torrey. He played with the Ravens for years, winning a Super Bowl with them, and he’s from the nearby state of Virginia.
“We’re back to doing what we would truly feel like we were born to do, which is to help the community,” said Torrey in the video. “It’s something that, I’m not going to lie, we’re a little nervous about. But we’re excited about the responsibility to help others and to be hands-on with the community and helping to change the community one family and one individual at a time.”
