RadioOnFire.com – The Chicago Sun-Times reports that R. Kelly has been hit with a new federal indictment which includes a new alleged victim and new allegations against the disgraced R&B singer. It is important to note, however, that another alleged victim was removed from the new indictment. There was scant information about the new alleged victim but the Sun-Times reports that she “met Kelly in 1997 or 1998 at the age of 14 or 15,” and had a sexual relationship with him until 2000. The indictment also states that the victim and four others “engaged in sexual contact and sexual acts,” all while under the age of 18.
Mike Leonard, an attorney of Kelly’s working on the case said that the new indictment demonstrates how the government “appears to continue to struggle with its underlying factual theory.”
“They have amended away a victim, changed the time period for counts, and changed the allegedly responsible entities in terms of forfeiture allegations,” Leonard said in a statement. “Moreover, to date, they have failed to even identify to us the victim identified in (the) amended indictment — with a promise they will do so in the future.”
The new indictment means a new arraignment hearing set for a future date. It could also push back the start of his federal trial in Chicago from April to a later date.
