RadioOnFire.com – A Woodbine resident shot and killed a man who was trying to break into his home in the middle of the night, Howard County police said.
The incident occurred at the 14000 block of Carriage Mill Road just after 1 a.m. Sunday.
According to police, the homeowner, Charles Dorsey, 56, of Woodbine, shot and killed Gerardo Alberto Espinoza, 46, of Chantilly, Virginia, as he was trying to get inside Dorsey’s home in the middle of the night.
Espinoza, who was wearing no shirt or shoes, was reportedly yelling and banging on the front door of Dorsey’s residence.
Police said Dorsey and his wife awoke and repeatedly shouted at the man to leave.
“There was a loud banging, the doorbell was ringing, he was clearly trying to make entry using the doorknob, so I don’t know what words were exchanged specifically between them expect that the homeowner repeatedly told the suspect to leave the property,” Howard County Police spokeswoman Sherry Llewellyn told WBAL-TV 11.
As Espinoza tried to gain entry, the homeowner fired one shot, striking him.
No one else was home at the time of the shooting and no one else was injured.
The investigation is ongoing.
