RadioOnFire.com – Baltimore police made 13 arrests and have obtained arrest warrants against seven others in connection with an East Baltimore drug trafficking organization, Commissioner Michael Harrison said Thursday.
Two months ago, working on an anonymous tip, police and city prosecutors began investigating the Back Block Bippers. Police arrested ringleaders Anthony Davis, 45, and Hugh Wade, 29. Investigators seized 18 firearms; fentanyl, cocaine and other drugs with an estimated street value of $11,000; and $19,000 in cash.
“When I say we can’t do it alone, this is what I mean and when we have community participation this is the result,” said Mayor Bernard C. “Jack” Young, who has pleaded for more witnesses to step forward in connection with violent crime.
State’s Attorney Marilyn Mosby said the gang members face a total of 53 counts, including gang participation and drug distribution charges. She said drug trafficking is a significant driver of violent crime in the city.
“So the ability to stop and intercept drug activity, especially targeting the distribution of the deadly drug fentanyl, is an integral component to combating violence,” Mosby said.
