RadioOnFire.com – The Baltimore County police are investigating an officer-involved shooting that left one person dead and one injured in Milford Mill early Friday morning, police say.
A preliminary investigation shows that the Golden Dragon Bar and Grill in the 8100 block of Liberty Road was closing around 1:45 a.m., an argument occurred between some individuals in the back of the parking lot, according to Baltimore County Police public information officer Cpl. Shawn Vinson.
An off-duty officer with another jurisdiction saw the incident and approached the individuals when he saw that one had a handgun, Vinson said. The officer then pulled his gun and ordered the individual to drop his weapon, but he refused to comply. The officer felt threatened and fired his weapon, Vinson said.
Vinson confirmed that gunfire was exchanged between the officer and the deceased.
“We do believe the individual that was struck did fire at the police officer also,” Vinson said.
The individual who had the handgun suffered multiple gunshot wounds and was taken to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead.
One other individual was injured by gunfire and had “superficial wound,” Vinson said.
The off-duty officer was not injured during the incident and Baltimore County police are working to notify his agency. His agency has not been disclosed at this time.
Investigators believe the officer had been inside the Golden Dragon as a patron and was not working security, Vinson said.
When prompted if the officer had consumed alcohol prior to the incident, Vinson said that detectives did not find any signs of intoxication.
