RadioOnFire.com – Emotional strength is something that can only be assessed over time. In all actuality, it has little to do with how we react in a given moment but our ability to deal with and bounce back from challenges.
Dr. Maya Rockeymoore Cummings, 48, is the epitome of emotional strength. She is the widow to the late Congressman Elijah Cummings, who in the final months of his life was very publicly, verbally attacked by President Donald Trump.
Congressman Cummings became one of Republican President Donald Trump’s chief adversaries on Capitol Hill, and a leader in the Trump impeachment probe, as chairman of the House Oversight Committee.
“I have been fighting alongside Elijah all these years, and he wanted me to continue to fight, and that’s what I’m doing,” says Rockeymore Cummings, a consultant and former chair of the Maryland Democratic Party.
Earlier this week, the politician announced her candidacy to serve out the remainder of her husband’s term in Maryland’s 7th Congressional District.
Speaking to the MSNBC show Morning Joe she said, “He thought I would be a natural successor to him. We talked about it. When we met – I was in the fight working on Capitol Hill on House Ways and Means Committee.”
Rockeymore Cummings revealed that she is going through with a preventive double mastectomy planned for Friday, as scheduled and discussed with her husband before his death.
“I have been fighting alongside Elijah all these years and working on my own stuff.”
In her journey to the House of Representatives will be challenging and in today’s political climate her strength will be tested.
