RadioOnFire.com – Howard County police on Tuesday charged a man and woman from New York with trafficking two women at a Jessup motel.

Acting on a tip last Wednesday, police determined there was possible prostitution taking place in a room at the Red Roof Inn in the 8000 block of Washington Boulevard.

“The suspects were posting online ads advertising prostitution services with both of these victims,” police spokeswoman Sherry Llewellyn said. “They arranged those appointments and then kept all of the money.”

The suspects are 35-year-old Zhongmei Zhang and 41-year-old Li Yu, both of Flushing, New York. Police say they served a search warrant for the hotel room and found Yu and one victim inside it, as well as Zhang and another victim outside the room.

The victims, ages 35 and 27, were referred to assistance services, Llewellyn said.

“Combating human trafficking in Howard County is a priority, and we want people to know that, not only the people who live here but also the people who may think of coming here to do wrong,” Llewellyn said.

Zhang and Li are being held without bond at the Howard County Detention Center.
