Gov. Larry Hogan and CVS Health officials announced Thursday 17 new drive-thru Coronavirus testing sites at CVS pharmacies throughout Maryland starting May 22, according to a statement released by Hogan’s administration.
The testing sites at CVS pharmacies will use the self-swab coronavirus test, according to Hogan.
To qualify for a self-swab test, patients must meet the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s test and age guidelines.
Patients must register and schedule an appointment at CVS.com to receive their test, officials said.
The process requires patients to stay in their car and drive through to the pharmacy window, where they will be provided a test kit and given instructions, according to the statement.
A pharmacy staff member will watch the patient from the window to ensure it is done correctly.
Gov Hogan said the test will then be sent to an independent, third-party lab where the results will be ready after three days.
There will be no tests taken inside any CVS retail locations, according to the statement.

“While the large-scale test sites we’ve been operating since early April have proven successful, this new approach allows us to utilize our presence in communities across the country and bring testing closer to home,” CVS Health President and CEO Larry J. Merlo said in a statement.
“Following our announcement that Maryland has reached a critical milestone in its long-term COVID-19 testing strategy by dramatically expanding the availability of testing for residents, these new, additional sites are another important step to further increase testing access for communities across Maryland,” Hogan said in a statement. “We will continue working closely with CVS Health and all of our partners in the private sector, along with Maryland’s world-class health care systems and local governments, to protect residents’ health and safety and support our state’s safe and gradual recovery.”
