At least two people were killed in an apparent steam pipe explosion at a Veteran Affairs hospital in Connecticut Friday morning, according to officials and local media reports.
A spokeswoman for the U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs told the Daily News that neither victim was a patient as the blast happened in a non-patient facility on the hospital campus in West Haven, about 70 miles northeast of Manhattan.
Connecticut State Police were on the scene assisting local fire marshals, the agency said in a tweet just before 10 a.m. A fire official later told the New Haven Register that the blast came from a steam pipe in a maintenance building.
There was no immediate word on the extent of the damage. It was also unclear whether anyone else was hurt by the explosion.
