While Doc Rivers has the unenviable distinction of being the only coach to lose three different playoff series after attaining a 3-1 lead in the series, and losing three series with a 3-2 lead, the Clippers are poised to keep Doc at the helm. According to Yahoo! Sports Chris Haynes, Rivers was “a major component in Kawhi Leonard joining the Clippers” and can therefore consider his job secure. Haynes went on to say that any calls for Rivers to lose his job are “premature,” despite every sports talking head doing as much on Wednesday morning.
During Doc’s tenure as head coach, the Clippers have had six seasons with at least 48 wins but they never made it past the semifinals in the playoffs. The Clippers were the fashionable pick coming into the season with a stacked team on paper but the franchise now finds itself in a familiar position with an early playoff exit.
